Choosing a Small Flat Screen TV With DVD

As technology in general, and the electronics market in particular, becomes more and more advanced, consumers benefit from lower prices and more sophisticated equipment. Just 20 years ago, televisions were huge and expensive, VHS players were the rage, and DVD players were unheard of. Ten years ago, TV's were beginning to become more streamlined DVD's had made their debut and prices were beginning to drop. Today, tweens carry iphones in their pocket capable of streaming videos and flat screen TVs can be found in almost every home.

With the increasing affordability of flat screen TV's, one hot selling item is the TV and DVD combo unit. The smaller TV's are perfect for bedrooms, offices, workout rooms and kitchens. Most of the units range from 19", the size of a computer monitor, and up.

Practically every television manufacturer offers a small TV/DVD combo in their product line. Not only can these TV's play DVD's, but most will also play CD's and DVD/RW's. Additional inputs are typically available allowing video playback from video cameras or picture slideshows from a digital camera through a USB port connection.

The combination units can be found in both 720p and 1080p screen resolutions. The higher 1080p resolution typically is not available in a model that is under 24 inches.

While not always noted in the product specifications, one factor that should be taken into consideration when deciding on which model to buy is whether or not the display screen can be turned, adjusted or tilted. One thing about LCD screens is that, depending on the brand, the images on the screen can not be clearly viewed from an angle. The viewer needs to be looking at the screen pretty much straight on.

This may be an issue depending on where you are planning on using the TV. If you are placing the television on a kitchen countertop and want to watch it as you are moving around the kitchen, you will probably need to angle the screen so you can see it clearly. If it is being used for a bedroom and is mounted on a wall or set on a dresser and want to watch it from bed, you will most likely need to tilt it down. Buying a model that does not tilt will cause a problem.
